CleanPDF – Privacy Policy
Summary
CleanPDF does not collect, store on a server, sell or share your data. The pages you save are processed on your computer and the files you save go to your own computer. CleanPDF has no analytics, tracking or telemetry of any kind. The only network requests the extension itself makes go to ExtensionPay, to check whether you have paid for Pro (or started a free trial), and only after you have opened its upgrade, trial or log-in page.
What the extension does with web pages
When you click the CleanPDF button, the extension reads and changes the page in your current tab to remove ads and pop-ups. It reads the page's title and address only to name the file and, if you turn on the Pro header/footer option, to print them on the pages. It then opens Chrome's print dialog, where you choose “Save as PDF”; Chrome itself creates the PDF. With Pro you can instead export Markdown or HTML, which CleanPDF saves to your Downloads folder. All of this happens in your browser. Page content, page addresses (URLs) and your browsing history are never sent to the developer or to anyone else.
Every data item CleanPDF handles, and where it goes
| Data | Where it is kept | Sent anywhere? |
|---|---|---|
| Content, title and address of the page you save | Only in the open tab while saving; the file you save goes where you choose in Chrome's print dialog, or to your Downloads folder for Markdown/HTML export | No |
| Settings: paper size, Pro options, file name template | chrome.storage.local on your device | No |
| Today's save count (date and number) for the free daily limit | chrome.storage.local on your device | No |
| ExtensionPay licence data: a random licence key, install date, and the status ExtensionPay returns (paid or not, payment date, trial start date, subscription status) | chrome.storage.sync. If Chrome Sync is on, Chrome syncs it through your Google account so Pro works on your other computers; otherwise it stays on your device |
Only the licence key, to extensionpay.com, to check your Pro status, after you have opened an ExtensionPay page |
| Your email address and card details | Entered by you on ExtensionPay's pages, not in the extension | Go to ExtensionPay and Stripe (see below) |
Removing the extension deletes the data it stored on your device. When you remove it, Chrome opens a short
thank-you page on this website (uninstalled.html); no information about you is added to that address.
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may keep standard web server logs (such as IP addresses) as described in
GitHub's privacy statement; the developer does not use them for tracking.
Payments and free trial (ExtensionPay and Stripe)
CleanPDF Pro is sold through ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe to process payments.
- When you click “Upgrade to Pro”, “Try Pro free for 7 days”, “Already paid? Log in” or “Manage or cancel subscription”, ExtensionPay's page opens. Anything you enter there, such as your email address and card details, goes to ExtensionPay and Stripe, not to the extension.
- After that, the extension contacts extensionpay.com with its random licence key to check whether you have paid or are in your trial. That request contains no page content, URLs or browsing data.
- If you never open one of those pages, the extension makes no network requests at all.
- The developer can see, in the ExtensionPay dashboard, the email address and payment or trial status of people who have paid or started a trial. The developer never sees card numbers. This information is used only to provide Pro and to answer support requests.
See the privacy policies of ExtensionPay and Stripe for how they handle your data.
What CleanPDF does not do
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry.
- No selling or sharing of data, and no use of data for anything other than saving pages and providing Pro.
- No remote code: everything the extension runs is included in the package reviewed by the Chrome Web Store.
Children
CleanPDF is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Changes that affect how data is handled will also be mentioned in the extension's release notes.
